On May 13, 2006 Mrs. Cole was elected to the City of Austin's City Council.  She is the first African American female to serve on city council in Austin.  Ms. Cole is a 1991 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law.  She received her undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Texas. Mrs. Cole served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Texas Municipal League from 1994 to 2000. Prior to that she was an associate at Wright & Greenhill, where she practiced insurance defense litigation. Ms. Cole previously worked as a Certified Public Accountant.  Mrs. Cole is the mother of three boys; Femi, Nelson and Marcus.
